Genesis Disability Group

AKCO supports and works very closely with The Genesis Disability Group in Kangemi, Nairobi. It was started by Mary, a very bold lady together with Fred another brave gentleman. They had children living with disabilities and together they formed a bond then invited others with similar challenges to join them. Though there has been little or no help coming their way from mainstream organisations including the government they have formed a formidable group to address their problems and needs.

Most of the fathers ran away as soon as their children's disabilities became noticeable leaving the women to fend for themselves and pick up the pieces.

AKCO strives to assist the group members work together and explore ways of teaching their children sign languages even if it is their very own version as a way to help their children gain some basic education as well as interact with and access the community. AKCO through the Kenya Australia Disabled People Project International (KADPPI) led by Mary Rainwater and Monfra Saimu (Monica) presents wheelchairs, blankets, soft toys, clothes and goodies donated by well-wishers in Australia.
